With Lindsay’s latest film release garnering tons of press (both good and bad), first-time director Jarrett Schaefer sat down and gave an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. In it, he talks a lot about first-time director issues, but takes a minute to discuss Lindsay herself.

When asked how he got Lindsay to play such a small role:

“I guess I beat the odds,” he observed. “I know she really liked the writing, really liked the sort of earnestness of the script. And when you’ve got three great producers who have great credits each all coming together for this one little movie, you’re not exactly a first time director although you are. She trusted me and wanted to do a film like this. I think what’s great about Lindsay is that her work is getting infinitely more interesting and complex.”

When asked how it was to work with her:

“You know, it’s like getting to drive a Ferrari,” Schaefer replied. “I can’t really compare it to anything — a Ferrari off road no doubt because it wasn’t on some soundstage anywhere. We were out in (the streets of) New York City. She would (do) these improv things, but they’re not really improv because they’d come to her before a take and she’d always let me know (what she wanted to do) and they’d be hysterical. I had her for seven days — it was broken up (into) three days and then four days — and it was probably a good thing that we had such tough material in New York City with limited time and limited money. That stuff (about Lohan being difficult on other shoots) didn’t occur to me. I didn’t have those kind of problems.”

Did he have any problems with her:

“No, I didn’t have any problems (with her), but we were doing something that we really felt (good) about. Lindsay was spending time with Yoko (Ono). I know they went out to dinner and stuff. She wanted to play Jude and she had ideas about Jude being like this ultimate Beatle girl with a foot in the past and a foot in the future. That was what we were doing.”

On Lindsay’s character (Jude):

“Jude Stein is her name,” he said. “She’s the real person who had dinner with Chapman on the night he shot John Lennon. They talked and had those conversations. She’s real. It’s pretty much all real (in the movie). There’s not a tremendous amount to read about this event, but there’s enough.”

It seems Lindsay’s signed on to another movie project already. Her latest film Chapter 27 has just come out, she’s just announced she’ll be one of the Manson Girls, and already a third role in 2008. So much for questions about her comeback!

Her latest movie role, however, already has people talking. In Florence she’ll play a sex-crazed waitress. There’s possibly nudity involved, and rumor has it she’s only making $75k for the role. It’s being said she’s taken the part to remind people she can still act.

However (and I’m adding in a big however until I get confirmation on this role), the movie isn’t showing up on IMDB yet. Neither is her role in Manson Girls, however, so that might not mean much. My bigger however, though, is the amount of money she’s supposedly earning for the role. Lindsay earns more than that for her two-day modeling gigs, so I doubt she’d settle for such an amount, especially if she’s going to be taking her clothes off. If the $75k were just the amount she asked for on top of the “regular” salary in order to be willing to take her clothes off, it would be a little more understandable. Until we get more info, this movie role is going in the “rumor” file.

Lindsay’s latest movie adventure, Manson Girls, is already causing controversy, and it’s not even in production yet! Lindsay is set to play Nancy Pittman, who did not participate in the Charles Manson murders but is believed to have gone afterwards with Manson to the scene to remove some of the evidence.

While she’s been filming these darker roles for the last few years (I Know Who Killed Me, Chapter 27), some feel she needs to return to more mainstream movies. Her father is just one of those people.

“I don’t know who is making her decisions for her. But I just wish she would go back to those family-style films, The Parent Trap, Freaky Friday, you know. This is a bad decision and I don’t know who is telling her to do it.”

In talking to the press he also says Lindsay’s too big a star to be in such genre-specific films. Which is the part I don’t get, really. Stars like Jake Gyllenhaal and Jodie Foster have been in “genre specific” films, and Val Kilmer is known for them. I think Mike’s just worried his daughter’s career won’t be able to bounce back as fast as they’d wanted it to, now that she’s out of rehab and back to her old lifestyle. Someone needs to remind these people rebuilding a career takes time. Look at Drew Barrymore … it took her the better part of five years to get back on track!

Well, it looks like Lindsay decided to head to Capri to receive her film award after all. I wasn’t sure if she’d stay in New York with family but it seems she’ll be spending her New Year partying with the Italians after all. She’s been spotted out shopping already, and at the awards ceremony none other than Hayden Panetierre was seated next to her! This either means Hayden’s back to her partying ways or Lindsay’s found a new non-party friend to hang out with. Either way, people are super peeved she’s receiving a film award after her last few movies have been such box office duds. I still haven’t made up my mind, but I think that if she takes the award and uses it for good rather than evil, that would rock.

It sounds like Lindsay will be travelling to Italy before the end of the year, as she’s being honored by the Capri Film Festival this year, taking place on December 30.

American actress and pop singing star Lindsay Lohan is joining a remarkable lineup of international of directors, producers and performing artists being honored at the 12th Annual Capri, Hollywood 2007–The Film Festival. Producer Mark Canton (300, The Spiderwick Chronicles) serves as Chairman of the star-studded festival, which will take place at various locations throughout Capri, Italy, from December 27th through January 2, 2008.

Lindsay’s being honored for her longstanding film and television career, and for her professionalism from an early age. Here’s hoping that winning such an award will help pull her out of The Great Funk of 2007, and will help her get some better film roles!

She’s been in two flops this year, and spent more time in rehab than out it seems, but that isn’t stopping Quentin Tarantino from wanting to revive Lindsay Lohan’s movie career. The producer/director has been known to help out fading stars in the past (John Travolta, Pam Grier and David Carradine), and this casting call would be no different.

He’s so confident in Lindsay’s acting ability that he’s been quoted as saying, “I could cast Lindsay in almost anything.”

That might be a stretch there, Quentin, but if you can pull a decent performance out of her you plan just might work. Either that or you’ll sink your career along with hers, because people will laugh at you for trying to turn Lindsay back into an actress when it’s pretty clear all she wants to do is party and hook up with random dudes.

Lest we forget, amidst all the hoopla surrounding La Lohan’s time in LA, she’s in town to film a movie, and hopefully one that is less horrid than her last movie. We know she’s tangoing her ass off, but what’s the movie about?

Now that she’s taken back LA, she’s got her man with her and he seems to be happy carrying her bags to and from dance rehearsal! Lindsay and Riley were spotted leaving the Millennium Dance Complex (also famous for housing Britney Spears when she’s not at Starbucks), where Lindsay spends her days rehearsing for her new movie “Dare To Love Me”.

I still can’t figure out why she didn’t stay in Utah and practice until the day the cameras were set to roll on this sure to be flop, but who am I to judge! At least she’s got her awesome man with her!

Not that she needs the attention or the drama (especially after the revelations that her boyfriend was someone’s fiance before he met her) Linday still garners top paparazzi drama. Here she is leaving a dance studio yesterday (Tuesday) after rehearsing for her upcoming role in the movie Dare To Love Me.

Proving you CAN go tanning too much, Lindsay’s first L.A. photos are less appealing and more appalling. She spent Sunday night, her first night in Hollywood, catching a movie (the new Elizabeth) and fake baking before calling it a night. No word as to her diggs while in Tinseltown, but we’re betting when she finally does make it out to Hyde and Le Deux (along with heading to Vegas like all the celebu-tots are doing now), she’ll be welcomed back with open arms and non-alcoholic drinks!

She was expected on set Monday for her tango movie Dare To Love Me, so hopefully we’ll start getting reports from set soon!

Too bad her new boy-toy Riley isn’t in LA with her … I was hoping he’d be a strong support to her while she’s back in the city that caused her so much trouble earlier in the year. Ah, well. Maybe he’ll make visits?

The newly sober Lindsay doesn’t seem to be suffering from a lack of work like some other pop tartlets *cough, Britney, cough* now that she’s been let loose on Hollywood. Instead, if the likes of Hollywood Rag are to be believed, she’s got several roles in the works as well as plenty of directors and producers clammoring to work with her.

First, Brett Ratner is directing a biopic of Hugh Hefner’s life, and is looking to cast Lindsay as one of his many Bunnies. “She is very talented - if she is sober.” I wonder if she’d play Kendra, one of his other “blonde period” girls, or just one of the random bunnies in Heff’s life?

Then there’s James Robinson. He had nothing but rants about Lindsay after working with her on Georgia Rule“, but now seems to be singing a different tune, claiming to have treated her like one of his own kids, and that she was never a diva on set. Wha???

Finally, Harvey Weinstein himself (he worked with her on Bobby) is saying he’d love to hire her after rehab as well! Of course I would work with her again. She’s a wonderful actress. She did a great job in ‘Bobby’. Lindsay is a wonderful talent.”

Who knows how she managed to charm all these men in such a short amount of time, but here’s hoping Lindsay doesn’t overwhelm herself with work … that’s one of the fastest ways to relapse.

The Insider is reporting Lindsay will be remaining in Utah for the remainder of this week, getting used to outpatient care schedules before heading back to LA to begin filming “Dare To Love Me”. That’s the movie producers put on hold to wait for LiLo, rather than hire another actor.

To prepare for the role, Lindsay hired a trainer to meet with her on weekends at the Cirque Lodge, giving her extensive tango lessons so she’d be more prepared to look like a professional dancer by the time she was ready to begin filming. Unofficially, the movie cameras are set to roll on October 15, so Linds doesn’t have a whole lot of time to get into trouble. She’ll also reportedly have a psychologist with her the entire time, and once filming is done head back to rehab for more outpatient treatment. Sounds like she’s on the right path!

Lindsay recently appeared on the The Late Show with David Letterman to chat about her Georgia Rule movie, but soon she and the host were talking about other things, from more risqué movie roles to the rumors that have been floating around concerning Lindsay.

Lindsay said that she’s going to play a stripper in the movie, I Know Who Killed Me, to which 60-year-old David replied, “You’re just gonna kill me, you know I have a heart condition. You’re just gonna kill me.” Lindsay added that people will see ‘a lot’ of her in her stripper role.

When the subject of Paris Hilton’s jail sentence of 45 days for violating parole – she was recently caught in an alcohol-induced reckless driving episode – Lindsay exclaimed, “It’s terrible.” She then took the opportunity to speak a bit about her own wild behavior on the set of Georgia Rule. “I was very immature. I was very irresponsible. And I understand that,” she said.

The two then played a round of ‘True of False’. Here are some snippets:
Did Lindsay punch Paris Hilton at a nightclub? “No,” Lindsay laughed.
Is she truly addicted to McDonald’s food? “True. Guilty pleasure,” Lindsay admitted.
Did she really run over a photographer’s foot with her car? “No, but I should have,” she said, then added that the incident was “so faked.”

Lindsay is tired of being seen as a party girl and is holding thumbs that her new film, I Know Who Killed Me, will show everyone that she is serious about her career.

In the thriller, Lindsay plays a character who gets kidnapped and tortured, then becomes a stripper. “At first I was like, ‘I can’t do this, I’m getting my legs cut off. I don’t want to look like that in scenes, I want to look decent.’ But that was just me being young and stupid. And I have my first sex scene in it which I always said I wouldn’t do,” she says. Lindsay then goes on to add, “I wanted to do this movie so people can see that I’m a f**ing actress and I’ve been doing it forever and it’s about time people see that. It felt so good to really act. I just pray people won’t rip me apart for it, and be negative.”

Lindsay not only wants to be taken seriously for her work, but hopes that she will snag an Oscar. “The thing with the press, and why they need to leave me the f**k alone for a little bit, is because I don’t want that distracting from my work. I want to get a nomination. I want to win an Oscar,” she says. “I want to be known for more than, like, going out. For being the ‘party girl’. I hate that. I bust my ass when I’m filming and when I have time off, yeah, I like to go out and dance.”

But actress Jane Fonda, who reprimanded Lindsay for her unprofessional behavior on the set of Georgia Rule, has no regrets about doing so. “I think she’s a fantastic actress and I think she’s just brilliant in this movie. She moved me to pieces. Basically, she’s a nice girl, but she was late a few times and I yelled at her,” Jane told the Chicago Sun-Times. “One day I had had enough and went to her make-up trailer and said, ‘Come on, Lindsay! Everybody’s waiting for you!’ And I just turned on my heel and walked out. Afterwards, they told me she turned to her make-up person and said, ‘Barbarella just yelled at me!’”

Lindsay has admitted she was not professional during the filming of Georgia Rule. According to reports, the film became more press-worthy for its on-set drama than the movie itself! During filming, producer James G. Robinson told Lindsay off about her unreliability in a letter to the star. He told her she was discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional, according to Actress Archives. And he was right: Lindsay used to call in ‘sick’ when everyone knew she was just nursing a nasty hangover from her hectic partying. It was so bad that James even threatened taking legal action! Even co-star Jane Fonda wrote Lindsay a letter telling her to hit the brakes on her behavior.
Sheesh, things really got ugly.

But now Lindsay has shown she’s a mature adult by admitting that she deserved the blame. “It upset me because I was a bit irresponsible. I didn’t think about the consequences, but I was also going through something in my life,” she told Allure magazine.
Apparently, not only was Lindsay already starting to grapple with her alcohol issues at the time, but she was also rumored to be having problems in her relationship with Harry Morton. Not that that’s any excuse, though.

What I find hard to believe is that her behavior is now “new and improved”, when in actual fact she’s still unreliable. Lindsay’s been pulling out of movies left, right and centre, even now that she seems to have a handle on her alcoholism. Can’t be good for the reputation she’s so keen on cleaning up.
