Saving Lolita
Proving (once again) she is so much more than a singer and actor, Lindsay has joined in the fight to save Lolita, a killer whale who has been living in the Miami Seaquarium for the last 37 years. Turns out she’s not the first to join this fight, as Lolita has had many trying to get her freed for years.
Lolita lives in a tank that is roughly four times her size, much too small for a killer whale. Her only companion for the last 37 years died over 20 years ago, after he repeatedly bashed his head into the enclosure walls. Someone was clearly not happy! Had she lived in the wild, her lifespan would have been as long as a human, but in captivity that lifespan is cut roughly in half. This means that, at around 40 years old, she is nearing the end of her life.
Son of Raul Julia, Raul Julia-Levy joined the fight to save Lolita a year ago, and quickly began recruiting his Hollywood friends. This fight has not been an easy one, as the Miami Seaquarium has refused offers up to $1 million for her release. For a full interview with Julia-Levy, head to Grist.
